How it works

  1. Step 1: Start your recipe

Click “Cost my recipe,” name what you’re baking and enter how many pieces one batch makes.

  2. Step 2: Add your ingredients and costs

Enter each package size, the price you paid and how much the recipe uses. Add your time, packaging and other costs if needed.

  3. Step 3: Check your price and profit

See your batch and per-piece costs. Enter a selling price per piece or dozen to check profit, then download or print your worksheet.

Frequently asked questions

Start with your ingredients, time, packaging and other costs. Divide the batch total by the number of pieces you can sell, then choose a price above that cost. The right price depends on your portion size, work and customers; there is no single price for every home bakery.

Count only the amount of each ingredient used. A $4 bag containing 1,000 g contributes $1 when a recipe uses 250 g. Add your labor, packaging and other batch costs, then divide by the number of sellable pieces.

Calculate the cost per serving

Recipe Cost Kit works in your browser. Enter package sizes, purchase prices and recipe quantities to calculate batch and per-piece costs. Add your time and packaging, then check the profit at your selling price or choose a target margin.
